Assemblies, Parts, Sheet Metal, Solid Edge, Tips

Here are 3 methods you might use to achieve this. It’s important to note the first two methods will create new files, but not remove or delete the originals from Windows.

1)      In Solid Edge open the assembly then edit into the component to be renamed and perform a Save as…, Close and Return.

Result: A new file is created and the assembly structure uses this component.

2)      In Solid Edge open the assembly, select the component, then use the Replace Part with Copy command.

Result: A new file is created, the assembly structure uses this component and the user does not need to edit into the part to achieve this.

3)      In Revision Manager open the assembly, select the component(s) to be renamed, pick the Rename command and give the file a new name.

Result: A file is renamed but no new file is created, the assembly structure uses this component. Any assembly using the original component will no longer be able to use it, Where Used search use is essential.
