This video shows that using mixed mode modelling (ST and Ordered) can improve the ability of being able to modify faces. Having rounds of varying sizes on a face can make it hard for ST to manage geometry, but placing these rounds into ordered can leave faces free of “clutter” leaving ST free to do what it does best.

Using mixed mode can be considered an extended version of ordered modelling where the Synchronous portion of the model is the base feature. Whenever you modify using the steering wheel (ie the ST portion), it is like modifying the base feature of an ordered model. ST handles all of the geometry modifications before then replaying the ordered features over the top.
